The new Dr. Toni Bilbao Preparatory Academy project was a 2-story K-8 school located in Doral, which serves as a prototype for other Miami-Dade County Public School facilities. Built on a green site, it features 37 classrooms, multiple offices, media center, music, arts, language, and discovery labs, and a dining/multipurpose area. The scope of work also included two basketball/ volleyball courts, two play fields, a PE shelter, a dedicated vehicular drop-off area, and a total of 62-parking spaces. Designed and built to sustainable standards offering efficiency in energy and waste management, life cycle cost analysis guided the selection of the building鈥檚 systems and materials to reduce maintenance and operational costs. The exterior walls were 10鈥 thick concrete tilt walls with punch windows and the floor structure framing was a pre-stress concrete joist system with a reinforced concrete topping slab.
